Setup guide

Everything to set up once: theme settings, menus, templates, custom fields and images.

Theme settings

Open the theme editor and click the gear icon (Theme settings).

Logo and favicon
Your logo, its width and the small icon shown in browser tabs. Without a logo, your store name shows in the heading font.
Colors
One accent color for buttons, links and highlights, plus color schemes (light and dark) that sections can use. Holo works out a readable shade of the accent for text and the right text color on accent buttons, so any accent works.
Typography
Fonts for headings, body text and details (prices, dates and labels), with size controls and optional capitalized headings.
Layout
Page width and the margin at the sides of the page.
Buttons and style
Button shape, corner roundness across the whole theme, hover effects and whether sections fade in as customers scroll.
Product cards
Image shape and fit, card style, a second image on hover, vendor and price per pack, and which badges show (sold out, pre-order, new release, sale) and how long a release counts as new.
Cart
Cart drawer or cart page, order notes, a free shipping goal and the notice shown when the cart has pre-orders.
Social media
Links to your Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Discord, Twitch, Facebook and X accounts. Icons show in the footer.

The header uses your store's Main menu (Online Store > Navigation). Holo turns nesting into dropdowns:

Drag a menu item onto another item to nest it. In the header section settings you can add a shop all link to the top of each dropdown and set how many columns fit in a row.

For the footer, create one menu per column (for example Shop, Help and About) and add a Navigation block for each in the footer section.

Quick links in the Collection tiles and Icon links sections also use menus. Create a short menu for each game or sport, such as Singles, Boxes and Graded, and pick it in the tile.

Templates

Product templates

TemplateUse it for
Default productSealed product: booster boxes, packs, cases, supplies and collectibles. Variants such as Booster box, Booster pack and Case each get their own price, and the price per pack shows automatically.
singleRaw single cards, with condition variants. Card tilt is on.
gradedGraded slabs, with grading company and grade as options and a certificate number per variant. Card tilt is on. See Graded slabs.

To choose a product's template, open the product in your admin and pick it under Theme template.

Page templates

TemplateUse it for
contactA contact page with a form.

storesA store locator. See Store locations.

Create the page under Online Store > Pages and choose the template under Theme template.

Custom fields

Holo reads a few custom fields (Shopify calls them metafields) for things like release dates and card details. Each field is optional: features that use a field simply don't show until it's filled in.

Add a field

  1. In your admin, go to Settings > Custom data.
  2. Choose Products or Variants, as listed below.
  3. Click Add definition, enter the name, and make sure Namespace and key matches the table exactly, for example custom.release_date.
  4. Choose the type from the table, then Save.

Fields then appear at the bottom of each product page in your admin, under Metafields. Variant fields appear when you click a variant.

Variant fields

NameNamespace and keyTypeWhat it does
Contentscustom.contentsSingle line text, list of valuesA What's inside list for this variant only, so a box and a single pack can list different contents.
Packs per variantcustom.pack_countIntegerNumber of packs, for the price per pack. Optional: Holo can read it from Contents instead.
Certificate numbercustom.cert_numberSingle line textThe grading certificate number for a slab.

To edit fields for many products at once, select the products in your Products list, click Bulk edit, and add the field as a column.

What's inside and price per pack

The What's inside block on the product page lists what's in the box, with large numbers for lines that start with a number:

24 booster packs
216 cards
24 foils guaranteed
1 box topper card

Holo uses the first of these that has a list:

  1. The selected variant's Contents field.
  2. The product's Contents field, for every variant.
  3. The list typed into the block in the theme editor (Contents when a product has none), shown on every product using that template.

Price per pack shows on product pages, product cards and in the cart. It uses the variant's Packs per variant field, or when that's empty, a line in Contents that ends in pack or packs, such as 24 booster packs. Lines like 9 cards per pack are ignored. A variant with one pack doesn't show a price per pack.

Pre-orders and release dates

Give a product a Release date in the future and Holo treats it as a pre-order:

After the release date passes, the product gets a New release badge for the number of days set in Theme settings > Product cards, and it can appear in Newest releases.

To take orders for stock you don't have yet, also turn on Continue selling when out of stock for the product's inventory in Shopify.

Graded slabs

Use the graded product template. Give the product two options, Grading company and Grade, so customers pick a grader, then a grade. Each variant is a slab, with its own price, stock and Certificate number.

Link each variant to its photo (click the variant, then its image) so choosing a grade shows that slab. The Graded showcase section shows the slab in each product's main photo and how many slabs are in stock.

Images

WhereRecommended
Product photosSquare, at least 2048 x 2048 px. Boxes and packs look best on a transparent or plain light background.
Single cards and slabsCrop to the card edges, with a plain or transparent background, for the best card tilt effect.
Hero1600 x 1200 px. Add a separate mobile image around 800 x 1000 px.
Slideshow2400 x 1200 px.
Collection tilesA pack or box with a transparent background (PNG), about 1000 px tall.
Brand logosTransparent PNG, about 600 px wide. Only use logos you are licensed to show.
Collection imagesLandscape, 1200 x 800 px or larger. Set them in Products > Collections.
Store locator map image1200 x 900 px.
Favicon32 x 32 px PNG.

Shopify resizes and compresses images for each screen automatically.

Store locations

  1. Create a page called Stores with the stores template.
  2. In the theme editor, open that page and add a Store block for each location: name, address, phone, features and opening hours.
  3. Write hours in 24 hour time, such as 11:00-21:00, and Closed on closed days. Holo shows whether each store is open now, in your store's time zone.
  4. Optional: add each store's latitude and longitude (right-click the store in Google Maps to copy them) so customers can sort stores by distance.

Link the page from the announcement bar's store link and your footer menu. The map only loads when a customer asks for it.

Buying cards from customers

Add the Sell to us section to explain how you buy collections. Write the steps as a numbered list in the text and they show as step cards. Choose Card fan under Media to show three single cards fanned out, and link the button to your contact page.
